Privacy Policy

Information We Collect

We collect the information needed to provide the app:

• Account information, such as your Apple sign-in identifier, email address when Apple provides it, display name, and support identifier.
• Reflection content you choose to save, including journal entries, mood check-ins, gratitude notes, wins, daily focus entries, tags, reminders, and related progress or streak information.
• Attachments you choose to add to journal entries, such as photos, PDFs, text files, Markdown files, or Word documents, plus attachment metadata needed to display and manage them.
• Usage information needed for app functionality, such as daily Clara message counts, refresh counts, completion state, and feature state.
• Device and diagnostic information used to keep the app reliable and secure, including app version, device/app identifiers, crash reports, App Check signals, and related technical logs.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.

How We Use Information

We use information to:

• Provide core app features, including journaling, mood check-ins, reminders, daily prompts, Clara reflections, insights, exports, and account deletion.
• Personalize the app experience, such as showing your preferred name, recent activity, daily rhythm, mood patterns, and relevant reflection prompts.
• Protect the app and backend services from abuse using Firebase Authentication and Firebase App Check.
• Diagnose crashes, service errors, and app reliability issues.
• Respond to support requests.

Device Permissions

Unfold Daily asks for device permissions only when a feature needs them:

• Photo Library access is used only when you choose to attach photos to a journal entry. Selected photos are uploaded as journal attachments so they can be shown with your entry.
• Notifications are used for local mood, journal, and Jumpstart reminders that you choose to enable. This build does not use Firebase Messaging, remote push notifications, or push tokens.

Unfold Daily does not request location, contacts, camera, or health database access. It requests microphone access only when you choose a live voice conversation with Clara.

AI Features

Unfold Daily includes AI-supported features, including Clara, daily prompts, quote refreshes, and emotion-pattern insights. When you use these features, relevant user-provided content may be sent to service providers, including OpenAI, through Unfold Daily's Firebase backend so the app can generate responses or insights. During a live Clara voice conversation, microphone audio is transmitted to OpenAI's Realtime API to provide the response. Unfold Daily does not keep an audio recording, but OpenAI processes that audio under its API data controls.

AI responses are not therapy, medical advice, diagnosis, crisis support, or emergency care. Do not include information you do not want processed by these services.

Service Providers

We use trusted service providers to operate Unfold Daily, including:

• Firebase and Google Cloud for authentication, database storage, file storage, App Check, backend functions, and crash diagnostics.
• Apple for Sign in with Apple and App Store distribution.
• OpenAI for AI-generated reflections, prompts, and insights.

These providers process information only as needed to provide, secure, support, or improve Unfold Daily.

Storage and Security

Your account data is stored in Firebase services and is scoped to your user account. Journal attachments are stored under your user account path. We use access controls, Firebase security rules, App Check, and other safeguards to limit access to your data.

No system can guarantee perfect security, but we design Unfold Daily to keep your reflections private and protected.

Your Choices

You can:

• Edit or replace entries in the app.
• Export a local copy of saved journal entries, gratitude logs, wins, and attachment metadata from Settings.
• Delete your data and account from Settings.
• Contact support for privacy questions or help with account deletion.

Deleting your account removes account-owned app data and journal attachment storage associated with your user identifier. Some limited diagnostic or operational records may remain where required for security, legal, or service integrity purposes.

Retention

We keep account and reflection data while your account is active or as needed to provide the app. If you delete your account, we delete account-owned app data from our active systems, subject to technical, legal, security, and backup limitations.

Children's Privacy

Unfold Daily is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Crisis and Health Disclaimer

Unfold Daily is not a replacement for therapy, diagnosis, medical care, emergency care, or crisis support. If you are in immediate danger or crisis, contact local emergency services or a qualified crisis support resource.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date above and, when appropriate, provide notice in the app or on our website.
